ICC profile

An ICC profile is a standardized data file that describes how a device or color space represents color, enabling color-management systems to translate colors between profiles.

International Color Consortium: An organization that develops and maintains standards for device-independent color management. It publishes the specifications that define how ICC profiles are structured and interpreted.
CIE 1931 color space: A foundational mathematical model of human color matching, established by the International Commission on Illumination in 1931. Its colorimetric framework underlies many standardized profile measurements.
Color management: The practice of controlling color reproduction across devices and media. ICC profiles are the data foundation used by many color-management workflows.
sRGB: A standardized RGB color space designed for consistent use across typical displays and digital images. Unlike a device-specific profile, sRGB defines a common space with fixed colorimetric meaning.
Profile Connection Space: A standardized, device-independent color space used as an intermediate reference in ICC color conversions. ICC conversions commonly pass through this shared reference space.
CIELAB color space: A perceptually organized color space in which coordinates represent lightness and two color-opponent dimensions. ICC workflows often use Lab values to express device-independent color.
Display calibration: The adjustment of a display toward specified color and luminance behavior. Calibration measurements can be saved as a display profile for subsequent color correction.
Device-independent color: Color representation whose meaning does not depend on a particular capture or display device. ICC profiles connect device-dependent values to device-independent references.
Color management module: Software that interprets color profiles and calculates color conversions between them. The module applies profile data to translate colors from source to destination.
RGB color model: A color model that represents colors through combinations of red, green, and blue components. Display profiles describe how RGB numbers correspond to actual colors.
