Indo-European studies

Indo-European studies is the interdisciplinary study of the Indo-European language family and the histories, societies, and cultures associated with its speakers.

Comparative method: A procedure for identifying historical relationships among languages through systematic comparison of sounds and forms. It establishes language relationships from recurring correspondences rather than superficial resemblance.
Indo-European sound laws: Regular sound correspondences that distinguish branches and document changes from Proto-Indo-European. Their patterns make the family’s historical relationships testable.
