Coup d'état : The sudden, illegal seizure of government power by a small group, usually within the state apparatus. A coup seeks rapid control from within, unlike an insurgency's protracted challenge from outside government.
Refugee : A person outside their country who cannot safely return because of persecution, conflict, or serious harm. Insurgency can force people across borders as they flee violence or state repression.
