Italian Social Republic

The Italian Social Republic was a German-backed Fascist state in northern Italy led by Benito Mussolini from 1943 to 1945, after the Kingdom of Italy’s armistice with the Allies.

Operation Achse: The German operation that disarmed Italian forces and occupied much of Italy after the 1943 armistice. It enabled Germany to establish the republic and restore Mussolini to power.
