Jacobo Árbenz

Jacobo Árbenz was a Guatemalan military officer and politician who served as president from 1951 to 1954. A CIA-backed coup forced him from office.

Juan José Arévalo: Guatemalan president from 1945 to 1951 whose reformist government preceded Árbenz’s. Arévalo’s administration began the reform period Árbenz continued.
