Jacques Lacan

Jacques Lacan (1901–1981) was a French psychoanalyst and psychiatrist who reread Freud through linguistics and structuralism. His theory treats the unconscious as structured like a language and centers on desire, the Other, and the registers of the Imaginary, Symbolic, and Real.
