Khuzestan Province

Khuzestan is a province in southwestern Iran, bordering Iraq and the Persian Gulf. Its capital is Ahvaz, and its landscape includes major rivers, oil fields, and fertile plains.

Ahvaz: Ahvaz is the capital and largest city of Khuzestan Province in southwestern Iran. The provincial capital sits on the Karun River and anchors Khuzestan’s urban life.
National Iranian Oil Company: The National Iranian Oil Company is Iran’s state-owned enterprise responsible for upstream oil and natural-gas operations. Its major producing operations are concentrated in Khuzestan’s oil fields.
Elam: Elam was an ancient civilization centered in southwestern Iran, flourishing from the third millennium BCE into the first millennium BCE. Much of ancient Elam’s core territory lay within present-day Khuzestan.

Shatt al-Arab: The Shatt al-Arab is a river formed by the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates, flowing into the Persian Gulf. It forms part of Khuzestan’s boundary with Iraq and connects the province to Gulf waterways.
Abadan Refinery: The Abadan Refinery is an oil refinery in Abadan, Iran, established in the early twentieth century. The refinery turned Khuzestan crude into a major industrial and export resource.
