Kingdom of Great Britain

A sovereign state formed in 1707 by uniting the Kingdom of England and Kingdom of Scotland under one Parliament. It became part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.

Acts of Union 1707: Legislation passed by the English and Scottish Parliaments that united their kingdoms as Great Britain in 1707. These acts created the kingdom and established its shared Parliament.
Parliament of Great Britain: The legislature of Great Britain, formed in 1707 from the English and Scottish Parliaments. It exercised the kingdom's shared legislative authority.
British Empire: A global system of territories and dependencies ruled or administered by Britain. Great Britain became the state directing the empire after 1707.
