Lantau Island

Lantau is Hong Kong’s largest island, west of Hong Kong Island. It contains Hong Kong International Airport, Ngong Ping, and extensive country parks.

Hong Kong: Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China on the southern coast of the country. Lantau is part of Hong Kong and lies at its western edge.
Tung Chung Line: The Tung Chung Line is an MTR railway connecting Tung Chung with central Hong Kong. It links northern Lantau’s residential and airport-access corridor to the urban rail network.
Tian Tan Buddha: The Tian Tan Buddha is a large bronze seated Buddha statue at Ngong Ping on Lantau. The statue is the island’s most recognizable landmark and a major Buddhist pilgrimage site.

Hong Kong International Airport: Hong Kong International Airport is the city’s principal international airport, built on reclaimed land at Chek Lap Kok. The airport occupies Lantau’s northwestern coast and connects the island to global air travel.
Ngong Ping 360: Ngong Ping 360 is a cable-car system connecting Tung Chung with Ngong Ping on Lantau. Its route carries visitors from the coast to the island’s highland attractions.
Po Lin Monastery: Po Lin Monastery is a Buddhist monastery at Ngong Ping on Lantau. Its religious community and temple complex give Ngong Ping significance beyond tourism.
Chek Lap Kok: Chek Lap Kok is the island on which Hong Kong International Airport was built, largely through reclamation. Airport construction transformed Lantau’s northwest coast and reshaped its transport role.
Ngong Ping: Ngong Ping is a high plateau on Lantau known for the Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. This upland destination is among Lantau’s best-known cultural and religious sites.
Lantau Country Park: Lantau Country Park is a protected area covering mountainous terrain in the island’s interior. It preserves much of Lantau’s upland landscape amid development along the northern coast.
