Laotian Civil War

A conflict in Laos between the communist Pathet Lao and the Royal Lao Government, fought amid North Vietnamese intervention and extensive U.S. military involvement from 1959 to 1975.

Pathet Lao: A Lao communist movement that fought the Royal Lao Government and later established a one-party state. Its armed forces fought to overthrow the Royal Lao Government.
Geneva Conference (1961–1962): An international conference that produced agreements on Laos's neutrality and government in 1962. Its neutrality settlement failed to end foreign military involvement or Lao factional conflict.
Souvanna Phouma: A Lao prince and neutralist politician who served several terms as prime minister. His attempts to form coalition governments repeatedly collided with the war's factional divisions.
Secret War in Laos: The covert U.S.-backed campaign in Laos, including air operations and support for local forces during the Vietnam War. The war's concealed U.S. role became known as the Secret War.
