Louis Daguerre

Louis Daguerre (1787–1851) was a French artist and photographer who developed the daguerreotype, one of the first practical photographic processes.

Daguerreotype: A direct-positive photograph made on a silver-coated copper plate, exposed in a camera and developed with mercury vapor. Daguerre’s name became attached to the process he introduced publicly in 1839.
Joseph Nicéphore Niépce: A French inventor who produced the earliest surviving photograph and collaborated with Daguerre on photographic experiments. Their partnership combined Niépce’s light-sensitive experiments with Daguerre’s later process development.
Charles-Marie Bouton: A French painter who collaborated with Daguerre in creating and operating the Paris Diorama. Bouton shared Daguerre’s major pre-photographic enterprise in theatrical visual effects.
