Lunar Gateway

The Lunar Gateway is a planned international space station in lunar orbit intended to support crewed exploration of the Moon and missions beyond it.

Near-Rectilinear Halo Orbit: A highly elliptical, three-dimensional orbit around the Moon with a stable repeating path. Gateway is planned for this orbit, which offers access to the lunar surface and communications with Earth.
Artemis program: NASA’s program for returning astronauts to the Moon and establishing a sustained lunar presence. Gateway is a major infrastructure element in Artemis lunar exploration plans.
Deep Space Gateway: NASA’s earlier name for a proposed crewed station in lunar orbit. The Lunar Gateway developed from this earlier station concept.
Canadian Space Agency: Canada’s national space agency, responsible for coordinating the country’s civil space activities. It is contributing Gateway robotics, including the Canadarm3 system.
Power and Propulsion Element: A Gateway module designed to provide electrical power and maneuvering capability. This module is the station’s propulsion and power hub.
Artemis IV: A planned Artemis mission intended to deliver Gateway’s International Habitat module and conduct a lunar landing. The mission is designed to assemble Gateway while carrying out a crewed lunar expedition.
Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway: A proposed lunar-orbit station concept developed through NASA and international partner discussions. This name and concept preceded the current Lunar Gateway program.
European Space Agency: An intergovernmental organization that coordinates space activities among European member states. ESA is contributing Gateway modules and services through international agreements.
Habitation and Logistics Outpost: A Gateway module planned to provide crew living space and support functions. It supplies the living quarters needed for extended crew visits.
Lunar exploration: Robotic and crewed investigation of the Moon, its environment, and its resources. Gateway is intended to support repeated missions to the lunar surface.
