Mecca Province

Mecca Province, officially the Makkah Region, is an administrative region in western Saudi Arabia. It includes Mecca, Jeddah, and Taif.

Mecca: Mecca is a city in western Saudi Arabia and Islam’s holiest city. The region takes its name from this city, which contains the Masjid al-Haram.
Hajj: Hajj is the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, required once for Muslims able to undertake it. The pilgrimage brings large seasonal flows of people into the region.
Kingdom of Hejaz: The Kingdom of Hejaz was an independent state in western Arabia from 1916 until its conquest by Nejd in 1925. Its territory included the cities that anchor the modern region.

Umrah: Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca that can be performed at any time of year. Year-round pilgrimage sustains travel and services across the region.
Unification of Saudi Arabia: The Unification of Saudi Arabia was the process that established the modern Saudi state in 1932. The region became part of the emerging Saudi state as western Arabia was incorporated.
Kaaba: The Kaaba is a cuboid shrine at the center of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. It is the focal point of pilgrimage activity concentrated in the region.
Taif: Taif is a city in western Saudi Arabia, situated in the Hejaz Mountains. Its highland setting distinguishes it from the region’s coastal cities.
King Abdulaziz International Airport: King Abdulaziz International Airport is an international airport serving Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It is a principal air gateway for visitors to Mecca and the region.
