Michael Haneke

Michael Haneke is an Austrian filmmaker whose formally controlled films examine violence, media, social power, and emotional distance. His work includes The Piano Teacher, Caché, and Amour.

The Piano Teacher: A 2001 film about a piano professor whose hidden desires and relationship with a student become increasingly destructive. Haneke adapts Elfriede Jelinek’s novel into a study of repression and coercive intimacy.
