Microphyll

A leaf with a single, unbranched vascular strand, usually lacking a leaf gap in the stem. Microphylls are characteristic of lycophytes.

Leaf: A plant organ specialized for photosynthesis, gas exchange, and often water regulation. Microphylls are one structural type of leaf.
Leaf trace: A vascular bundle that branches from a stem’s vascular system and enters a leaf. A microphyll is supplied by a single leaf trace.
Telome theory: A theory that complex plant organs evolved through modification and fusion of branching axes. It explains megaphyll origins differently from the enation-based account of microphyll evolution.

Lycophyte: A lineage of vascular plants that includes clubmosses, spikemosses, and quillworts. Living lycophytes are the principal plants bearing microphylls.
