Mon people

The Mon are an ethnic group of mainland Southeast Asia, historically rooted in Lower Burma and associated with the Mon language and distinctive cultural traditions.

Dvaravati: A network of early Mon-speaking Buddhist city-states in central Thailand, flourishing roughly from the sixth to eleventh centuries. Dvaravati is a major early expression of Mon political and Buddhist culture.
Mon language: An Austroasiatic language spoken by Mon communities in Myanmar and Thailand. The language is a central marker of Mon heritage and a link to older literary traditions.
