Montgolfier brothers

Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier were French inventors whose hot-air balloons made the first widely publicized human flights in 1783.

Hot-air balloon: An aircraft that rises because heated air inside its envelope is less dense than surrounding air. The brothers’ defining invention used heated air to lift a large fabric envelope.
