Morean War

The Morean War was a conflict between the Ottoman Empire and Venice-led forces from 1684 to 1699. Venice captured the Peloponnese, or Morea, which Ottoman rule regained in 1715.

Siege of Athens (1687): A Venetian siege that captured Ottoman-held Athens in 1687 and caused the Parthenon to be badly damaged by an explosion. The Venetian bombardment of the Acropolis demonstrated the war's destructive reach beyond the Peloponnese.
Ottoman–Venetian War (1570–1573): A war in which the Ottoman Empire conquered Cyprus from Venice and defeated the Holy League at Lepanto. Earlier Ottoman-Venetian rivalry established the strategic context for later conflict.
