Moscow Armistice

The agreement signed on 19 September 1944 that ended hostilities between Finland and the Soviet Union and set terms for Finland’s withdrawal from World War II.

Paris Peace Treaties, 1947: The 1947 agreements that formally settled peace between the Allied powers and former European Axis states, including Finland. They converted the armistice’s provisional settlement into Finland’s formal postwar peace terms.
Allied Control Commission: A commission led by the Soviet Union that supervised the armistice terms in Finland from 1944 to 1947. It monitored Finland’s compliance and exercised substantial authority over the settlement.
Continuation War: The 1941–1944 conflict in which Finland fought the Soviet Union alongside Germany. The armistice ended this war after Finland’s 1944 defeats and negotiations with Moscow.

Winter War: The 1939–1940 war in which the Soviet Union invaded Finland. It was the earlier Soviet-Finnish conflict whose territorial settlement the 1944 agreement partly reaffirmed.
Karelia: A historical region in northern Europe divided between Finland and Russia. The armistice confirmed Finnish territorial losses in Karelia, including the Karelian Isthmus.
Finnish Defence Forces: Finland’s military organization, comprising its army, navy, and air force. The agreement restricted Finland’s armed forces and required their demobilization to peacetime strength.
