Nanzhao

Nanzhao was a kingdom centered in present-day Yunnan, China, that flourished from the eighth to ninth centuries and expanded across parts of mainland Southeast Asia.

Erhai Lake: A lake in northwestern Yunnan, China, near the historic center of Nanzhao. The lake basin anchored Nanzhao's early political heartland.
Tang–Nanzhao relations: The changing diplomatic and military relationship between Tang China and Nanzhao. Nanzhao alternated between Tang ally and opponent as regional interests shifted.

Pilugé: An eighth-century ruler of Mengshe who established Nanzhao's dominance among Yunnan's regional powers. His alliance with Tang China helped unify the six Zhao polities.
Nanzhao–Tibet relations: The diplomatic and military interactions between Nanzhao and the Tibetan Empire. Nanzhao's ties with Tibet complicated its rivalry and negotiations with Tang China.
