Ohm's law

Ohm's law states that voltage across an ohmic component equals current through it multiplied by its resistance. Its linear relation applies when relevant physical conditions remain fixed.

Voltage: Electrical potential difference between two points, measured in volts. It is the potential difference Ohm’s law relates to current and resistance.
Electric charge: A fundamental property of matter that produces electrical interactions and is measured in coulombs. Current measures how quickly this quantity moves through a circuit.
Series and parallel circuits: Circuit arrangements in which components share one path or connect across common nodes. Ohm’s law helps determine currents and voltage drops in both arrangements.
Georg Ohm: A German physicist who established the quantitative relation between voltage, current, and resistance. His experiments and 1827 treatise gave the relation its name.
Kirchhoff's circuit laws: Rules stating that currents balance at circuit junctions and voltage changes sum to zero around loops. They complement Ohm’s component relation by constraining whole circuits.
Electric current: The rate at which electric charge passes a point in a circuit, measured in amperes. It is the charge flow that rises with voltage for fixed resistance.
Electrical power: The rate at which electrical energy is transferred or converted, measured in watts. Combining the law with power definitions gives useful circuit formulas.
Voltage divider: A circuit that produces an output voltage from a fraction of an input voltage. Its output follows from Ohm’s law applied to series resistances.
