Oliver North

Oliver North is a retired U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant colonel and political commentator who became a central figure in the Iran–Contra affair.

Iran–Contra affair: A political scandal involving secret U.S. arms sales to Iran and support for Nicaraguan rebels during the 1980s. North helped run the secret support operation at the center of the scandal.
Arms-for-hostages deal: A secret arrangement in which the Reagan administration sold weapons to Iran while seeking the release of U.S. hostages in Lebanon. North helped facilitate the contacts and logistical arrangements behind the arms sales.
Ronald Reagan: The 40th president of the United States, serving from 1981 to 1989. The Iran–Contra operation unfolded during his presidency and raised questions about his oversight.
