Olusegun Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo is a Nigerian military officer and politician who led Nigeria as military head of state from 1976 to 1979 and as elected president from 1999 to 2007.

Murtala Muhammed: A Nigerian military officer who ruled as head of state from 1975 until his assassination in 1976. Obasanjo succeeded Muhammed as head of state and continued his promised transition to civilian rule.
Nigerian Civil War: A war fought from 1967 to 1970 between Nigeria’s federal government and the secessionist Republic of Biafra. Obasanjo commanded federal forces late in the war and accepted Biafra’s surrender in 1970.
