Olympe de Gouges

Olympe de Gouges (1748–1793) was a French playwright and political activist who argued for women’s political rights and the abolition of slavery during the French Revolution.

French Revolution: A period of political upheaval in France from 1789 to 1799 that ended the monarchy and reshaped European politics. Its conflicts gave de Gouges the political moment in which she published her rights claims.
