Operation Weserübung

Operation Weserübung was Germany’s April 1940 invasion of Denmark and Norway, intended to secure strategic positions and protect access to Swedish iron ore.

Operation Weserübung Süd: The southern component of Germany’s 1940 invasion plan, targeting Denmark. Its rapid occupation of Denmark secured airfields and routes supporting the Norwegian campaign.
Swedish iron ore: Iron ore mined in Sweden and used as a major raw material for steel production. Germany sought to protect maritime access to ore shipped through Norwegian waters and Narvik.
