Otto Neurath

Otto Neurath (1882–1945) was an Austrian philosopher, sociologist, and political economist associated with logical empiricism and the Vienna Circle. He also developed Isotype, a system for communicating social statistics through pictorial symbols.

Rudolf Carnap: A German philosopher and leading member of the Vienna Circle who helped develop logical empiricism. Carnap shared the Circle with Neurath but differed over the form a unified scientific language should take.
Isotype: A system for presenting social statistics with standardized pictorial symbols and carefully structured charts. Neurath’s best-known design project turned his commitment to public understanding into a visual method.
