Penny press

The penny press was a nineteenth-century newspaper model that sold papers for one cent, widening readership through mass circulation and sensational, local reporting.

Benjamin Day: American newspaper publisher who founded the New York Sun in 1833. He launched the penny-press model with a one-cent daily newspaper.
Steam-powered printing press: A printing press driven by steam power that enabled faster, larger-scale production. Higher output helped publishers supply growing city audiences.
