Phan Bội Châu

Phan Bội Châu was a Vietnamese scholar and anticolonial revolutionary who organized early twentieth-century movements for independence from French rule.

French conquest of Vietnam: The nineteenth-century military campaigns through which France established colonial control over Vietnam. French rule supplied the political target for Châu’s independence campaigns.
Duy Tân Hội: A Vietnamese revolutionary association founded by Phan Bội Châu and allies in 1904. This organization gave his early independence campaign a political structure.
Ho Chi Minh: A Vietnamese communist revolutionary who led the struggle that established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Ho belonged to a later generation that inherited and transformed the independence cause.
