Plant taxonomy identifies, names, and classifies plants using their characteristics and evolutionary relationships. It organizes plant diversity into a system of named groups.

Botanical nomenclature: The formal system for naming plants, algae, and fungi under internationally agreed rules. Its rules govern the scientific names assigned to plant taxa.
