Porfirio Díaz

Porfirio Díaz was a Mexican general and politician who dominated national politics as president from 1876 to 1911, promoting modernization while suppressing opposition.

Second French Intervention in Mexico: A French invasion and occupation of Mexico from 1862 to 1867 that installed Emperor Maximilian I. Díaz gained national prominence fighting French forces and the empire they imposed.
