Pterodactylus

Pterodactylus is an extinct genus of small, long-tailed pterosaurs known from Late Jurassic Europe. Its fossils include some of the earliest pterosaur specimens formally described.

Cosimo Alessandro Collini: An Italian naturalist who described a fossil pterosaur from Solnhofen in 1784. His description preceded the formal naming of Pterodactylus.

Solnhofen Limestone: A Late Jurassic fossil-bearing limestone formation in Bavaria, Germany, known for exceptional preservation. Its fine-grained deposits preserve many of the genus's best-known fossils.
