Rashtrakuta dynasty

The Rashtrakuta dynasty ruled a Deccan-centered empire from the eighth to tenth centuries, expanding across much of western and central India and competing for power in the north.

Tripartite struggle: A prolonged contest for control of Kannauj among the Rashtrakutas, Gurjara-Pratiharas, and Palas. Rashtrakuta rulers repeatedly entered this contest to project power into northern India.
