Robert the Bruce

Robert the Bruce was King of Scots from 1306 to 1329 and a leader of the First War of Scottish Independence. His victory at Bannockburn in 1314 helped secure Scotland’s independence.

Battle of Bannockburn: A 1314 battle in which Scottish forces led by Robert the Bruce defeated the army of Edward II of England. Bruce’s decisive victory there became the defining military success of his reign.
First War of Scottish Independence: A series of conflicts between Scotland and England from 1296 to 1328 over Scotland’s political independence. Bruce’s reign formed a decisive phase of this longer conflict.
