Roscosmos

Roscosmos is Russia’s state corporation responsible for the country’s civil space program, including human spaceflight, launch vehicles, and satellites.

Soyuz (spacecraft): A Russian crewed spacecraft used to transport people to and from orbit. Roscosmos operates Soyuz missions for crew transport and orbital access.
Soviet space program: The state-directed effort that developed the Soviet Union’s launch vehicles, satellites, and crewed spaceflight. Roscosmos inherited facilities, expertise, and missions from this predecessor program.
GLONASS: Russia’s global satellite navigation system, providing positioning and timing services. Roscosmos develops and launches satellites that sustain Russia’s independent navigation network.
NASA: The United States government agency responsible for civilian space exploration and aeronautics. NASA is Roscosmos’s principal counterpart in decades of crewed-spaceflight cooperation.
Soyuz (rocket family): A family of Russian launch vehicles derived from the R-7 missile. Roscosmos uses Soyuz launchers to place crewed spacecraft and satellites into orbit.
Russian Space Agency: Russia’s federal agency for civilian space activities from 1992 until its 2015 reorganization. It was the direct institutional predecessor to the Roscosmos state corporation.
Luna program: A series of Soviet and Russian robotic missions to the Moon. Luna missions represent Roscosmos’s continuing lunar exploration work.
European Space Agency: An intergovernmental organization coordinating the space programs of European member states. ESA partners with Roscosmos on selected missions but has a distinct multinational structure.
Angara (rocket family): A modular family of Russian launch vehicles designed to replace older rockets. Angara is a newer launcher developed within Russia’s state space program.
Roscosmos State Corporation: The Russian state corporation established in 2015 to consolidate national space activities. This legal reorganization brought the agency and major space enterprises under one corporation.
