Rurik

Rurik was a Varangian ruler traditionally regarded as the founder of the Rurikid dynasty and an early ruler of Novgorod in the ninth century. His historicity and the details of his life remain disputed.

Primary Chronicle: A medieval East Slavic chronicle compiled in Kyiv around the beginning of the twelfth century. Its account is the principal narrative source for Rurik’s arrival and rule.
