Rus' people

The Rus' were a medieval people whose communities and ruling groups helped form political networks across eastern Europe, including Kievan Rus'. Their origins and ethnic composition remain debated.

Varangians: Scandinavian travelers, traders, and mercenaries active in eastern Europe and the Byzantine world during the Viking Age. The Rus' are often associated with Varangian groups moving along eastern European river routes.
Dnieper River: A major river flowing south through eastern Europe into the Black Sea. Its route connected Rus' settlements and trading centers with Constantinople.
