Russian privatization

The transfer of state-owned Russian enterprises into private ownership during the 1990s. Its rapid, contested methods reshaped ownership and concentrated substantial wealth among a small group of businesspeople.

Voucher privatization in Russia: A 1992–1994 program that distributed vouchers to Russian citizens, who could exchange them for shares in privatized companies. The mass voucher program was the first major route for transferring enterprises out of state ownership.
