Scottish nationalism

Scottish nationalism is a political tradition advocating Scottish self-government, from devolved powers within the United Kingdom to an independent Scottish state.

Acts of Union 1707: The acts of the English and Scottish parliaments that united their kingdoms as Great Britain in 1707. The Union created the constitutional settlement that Scottish nationalists later sought to reform or end.
Scottish National Party: A Scottish political party founded in 1934 that campaigns for Scottish independence. It became the principal electoral vehicle for the independence movement.
Scottish unionism: A political tradition supporting Scotland’s continued place in the United Kingdom. It offers the main opposing constitutional position in Scottish debates over independence.
