Sensory ecology studies how animals use sensory systems to gather information from their environments and how environmental conditions shape what they can detect.

Signal detection theory: A framework for distinguishing signals from noise while accounting for detection limits and decision costs. It explains how animals detect meaningful cues when environmental noise obscures them.
