Sewerage

Sewerage is the network of sewers and related infrastructure that collects and conveys wastewater for treatment or disposal.

Sanitary sewer: A sewer that carries wastewater from buildings to treatment or disposal. It carries domestic and commercial wastewater separately from storm runoff.
Sewer: An underground conduit that carries wastewater, stormwater, or both. Sewers form the network's principal channels for conveying wastewater.
Septic system: An on-site wastewater system that treats sewage in a tank and soil absorption area. It treats wastewater near a property rather than conveying it through a public sewer network.

Pit latrine: A toilet that deposits excreta into a pit beneath or near the structure. It contains waste locally without a sewer connection.
Sanitation: Systems and practices for safely managing human excreta and associated hygiene risks. Sewerage is one infrastructure component within the broader sanitation system.
Sewage pumping station: A facility that lifts sewage through pumps when gravity cannot move it onward. Pumping stations move wastewater across low points and flatter terrain.
House connection: A pipe connecting a building's plumbing to a public sewer or other wastewater system. These connections bring wastewater from individual properties into the network.
