Shoghi Effendi

Shoghi Effendi (1897–1957) was the Guardian of the Bahá’í Faith from 1921 until his death. He translated Bahá’í scripture, interpreted its teachings, and developed its administrative institutions.

Bahá’u’lláh: The founder of the Bahá’í Faith, whose writings form its central scripture. Shoghi Effendi translated and interpreted the writings of the faith’s founder.
Guardianship of the Bahá’í Faith: The hereditary office of authoritative interpretation established in ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s Will and Testament. Shoghi Effendi was its first and only holder.
The Dawn-Breakers: A history of the Bábí movement written by Nabíl-i-A‘ẓam and translated by Shoghi Effendi. Its translation brought an early history of the faith to English-speaking Bahá’ís.
Will and Testament of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s document establishing the Guardianship and outlining Bahá’í administrative leadership. Its provisions named Shoghi Effendi as Guardian and defined his office.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá: Bahá’u’lláh’s son and successor, who led the Bahá’í community until 1921. His death in 1921 preceded Shoghi Effendi’s accession as Guardian.
Bahá’í Administrative Order: The system of elected and appointed institutions governing Bahá’í community life. He organized its institutions and laid groundwork for their worldwide operation.

Universal House of Justice: The international governing body of the Bahá’í Faith, elected by national spiritual assemblies. Shoghi Effendi prepared the institutional path toward its establishment.
