Shu Han

Shu Han was a state in southwestern China during the Three Kingdoms period, founded by Liu Bei in 221 and conquered by Wei in 263.

Liu Bei: A warlord who founded Shu Han and ruled as its first emperor. His claim to continue the Han dynasty supplied Shu Han’s founding legitimacy.
Zhuge Liang: A Shu Han chancellor and military strategist who served Liu Bei and Liu Shan. He directed the state’s administration and northern campaigns after Liu Bei’s death.
Liu Shan: The second and last emperor of Shu Han, who ruled from 223 until its surrender in 263. His reign encompassed the state’s final decades and its surrender to Wei.
Fall of Shu Han: The 263 surrender of Shu Han to Wei after Deng Ai’s invasion and Jiang Wei’s capitulation. Its surrender ended the state and shifted the balance among the Three Kingdoms.
Battle of Yiling: A 222 battle in which Sun Quan’s forces defeated Liu Bei’s army. Liu Bei’s defeat curtailed Shu Han’s effort to reclaim territory from Wu.
Jingzhou: A strategically located region in central China contested by Shu Han and Wu. Losing it to Wu severed Shu Han’s eastern foothold and altered its strategic position.
Fa Zheng: A strategist and official who helped Liu Bei establish control in Yi Province. His counsel helped secure the territory that became Shu Han’s core.
Cao Wei: A state that controlled northern China during the Three Kingdoms period and conquered Shu Han. Wei absorbed Shu Han before itself being displaced by the Jin dynasty.
Chengdu: A city in Sichuan that served as Shu Han’s capital. Its location anchored the state’s government in the Sichuan Basin.
Northern Expeditions: A series of Shu Han campaigns against Wei, chiefly led by Zhuge Liang and later Jiang Wei. These campaigns embodied Shu Han’s attempt to defeat Wei and restore the Han.
