Siachen conflict

The military confrontation between India and Pakistan over control of the Siachen Glacier and nearby high-altitude territory, beginning with India’s 1984 occupation of key positions.

Siachen Glacier: A glacier in the eastern Karakoram, extending north from the Saltoro Range. Its ice fields and surrounding passes form the central terrain of the confrontation.
Line of Control: The de facto military boundary separating Indian- and Pakistani-administered parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The Siachen dispute begins where the 1972 line's mapped course ends.
