Strategic bombing

Strategic bombing is the use of air attacks against an enemy’s industrial, economic, political, or civilian targets to weaken its capacity or will to wage war. It differs from air support aimed directly at battlefield forces.

Area bombing: Air attacks that spread explosive and incendiary weapons across a broad urban or industrial area. It was used when destroying whole built-up areas mattered more than hitting individual factories.
Strategic bombing during World War II: The sustained Allied and Axis air campaigns against military, industrial, and urban targets during World War II. The war became the defining test of strategic bombing on an industrial scale.
