Sufi poetry

Sufi poetry expresses Islamic mystical experience through verse, often using images of love, longing, intoxication, and union with God.

Sufism: A tradition of Islamic spirituality focused on cultivating closeness to God through spiritual practice and inner transformation. Sufi poetry gives literary expression to this tradition’s pursuit of divine intimacy.
Rumi: A thirteenth-century Persian-language poet and Sufi mystic whose works include the Masnavi and the Divan of Shams. His poems made divine love and spiritual transformation central to a widely read Sufi corpus.
Divine love: Love understood as the soul’s bond with God and a path toward spiritual transformation. It supplies the emotional center of poems about longing and nearness to God.
