Swedish Empire

The Swedish Empire was the period when Sweden held extensive territories around the Baltic Sea and ranked among Europe’s major powers, chiefly from the 17th century until the early 18th century.

Gustavus Adolphus: King of Sweden from 1611 to 1632 who expanded Swedish power and led its intervention in the Thirty Years’ War. His military campaigns and reforms established Sweden as a major continental power.
Indelningsverket: A Swedish system that maintained soldiers and cavalry through land-based obligations organized by local communities. It supplied the standing army that fought Sweden’s wars.
Polish–Swedish War (1600–1629): A series of conflicts between Sweden and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth over Livonia and dynastic claims. The war secured Swedish control of key Baltic ports and territories.
