Sydney Cove

Sydney Cove is an inlet on the southern shore of Port Jackson, Australia. The First Fleet established the British penal settlement there in January 1788.

First Fleet: The eleven ships that carried convicts and other settlers from Britain to New South Wales in 1787–1788. Its arrival at the cove began the British settlement in January 1788.
European exploration of Australia: The voyages by European navigators that charted parts of Australia from the sixteenth through eighteenth centuries. Earlier voyages preceded the First Fleet’s choice of Port Jackson for settlement.
