Taiwan democratization

Taiwan democratization was the transition from Kuomintang authoritarian rule to competitive democratic government, driven by political liberalization, opposition organizing, and expanded elections.

Kuomintang: A Chinese political party that ruled Taiwan from 1945 until the Democratic Progressive Party won the presidency in 2000. Its authoritarian government was the system Taiwan’s democratization dismantled.
Political liberalization in Taiwan: The relaxation of political controls in Taiwan that allowed greater organization, expression, and electoral competition. It describes the opening process that preceded full electoral competition.
