Tajikistan

Tajikistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Its rugged terrain is dominated by the Pamir and Alay mountain systems.

Pamir Mountains: A high mountain system in Central Asia, much of which lies in eastern Tajikistan. The Pamirs define the country’s eastern highlands and include many of its most remote communities.
Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic: A Soviet republic that existed from 1929 until Tajikistan’s independence in 1991. Its formation established the territorial framework of the present-day state.
