Knowra Timbre Timbre Timbre is the perceptual quality that distinguishes sounds with the same pitch and loudness. It is shaped by spectral content and by how a sound changes over time.
Harmonic spectrum : The set of frequency components at integer multiples of a sound’s fundamental frequency. Harmonic amplitudes help determine whether a pitched sound seems bright, dark, or otherwise distinctive.
Sound : A mechanical vibration that propagates through a medium as pressure waves and can be heard by humans. Timbre is a perceptual property of sounds, not a separate physical signal.
Musical instrument : A device designed to produce musical sounds through vibration or electronic signal generation. Instrument identity often depends on timbre when pitch and loudness are matched.
